Parents – a new social media challenge has emerged called Momo Suicide Challenge. If you haven’t done so already, this is a good time to check in with any of your children who are on social media to have a good conversation about its purpose and use and boundaries that you agree to as a family. Here’s a link to an informative Denver Channel news report about this: https://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/local-news/disturbing-momo-challenge-suicide-game-concerning-schools-parents.
Dress Down Day Opportunity
Children are invited to dress down on Friday, September 14th in celebration for the parish Oktoberfest on Saturday. Student Council suggested theme is to dress as a farmer, or accessorize as such (no live animals!). All students are invited to dress down, even if they do not prefer to dress in the suggested theme. Students are always also welcome to wear their uniform on these days.
Please help at the games stations or help with an hour of set up.
Gina Sawyer is contacting all families who have not returned tickets. She will need to collect all sold (and unsold) tickets. Thank you for responding to her when she reaches out to you. She can be reached as follows: 773.416.6401 or ginalukowski@yahoo.com. Drawing happens at Oktoberfest on Saturday.
Grades 3-4 Widgets from 6:00-6:30 pm in school gym
Grades 5-8 JV and Varsity from 6:30-7:30pm in school gym
Does your pup, kitty, hamster, or turtle need a spiritual lift? Come to St. Vincent de Paul Parish on the feast of St. Francis of Assisi for the blessing of animals by Franciscan Capuchin Father Joseph Mary. Right after 3:00pm dismissal at the main gate of the school, simply walk over to the parish circle with your pet – on a leash or in a cage. No pets / animals are ever allowed inside the school gates lower playground (except chickens!) or upper playground.
The Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia, Nashville, have created and published a free 3-year cycle of virtues to practice as an entire family. While the entire school/family practices the same virtue, they can each study a different saint who shows us how to live out this virtue in a heroic way. This month students will learn about and continue to practice the virtue of faith by which we can “touch” God. Find the curriculum here on the Dominican Sisters’ website. Scroll down to the Year of Faith.
Thank you for your patience as we create and edit the directories and class lists which are now posted on the File Library in Option C. This requires a little hand-caressing as the program does not automatically generate the reports in a way that respects the privacy of families who do not want their contact information listed in the directory. Home and School is preparing a hard copy directory with class lists and more. Please look for the Home and School table at Oktoberfest, and stay tuned to learn how to order a copy.
SVDP just received a rebate check from Safeway totaling $266. Thank you for those who participate in this program. As you heard at back to school night, we have the potential to receive over $20,000 grocery card give backs if each family used $150 in gas or groceries through Safeway and/or King Sooper. Thanks for learning about and supporting the program! Cards available at Oktoberfest and at the school office.
While you have your wallets out purchasing your Octoberfest tickets, please consider picking up a reloadable King Soopers grocery card for just $2.50. We will have them available for purchase at the ticket counter at Octoberfest. We only have 20 to sell and would love to sell out!
Don’t be embarrassed if you don’t know how to use the grocery card, we have easy to follow instructions that will take you step by step through the process. This is the easiest fundraiser you can participate in, as we all purchases gas and groceries. If you use your reloadable grocery card to pay for these staple purchases, the school will receive 5% back on each transaction. If each SVdP family spent $150 per month on their reloadable grocery card, the school would receive over $20,000 in just one year

The Scholastic Book Fair is right around the corner and we are looking for a volunteer to work closely with Mrs. Edmonds, our librarian, to make this event a success. This volunteer will serve as a liaison for parent volunteers, establish a sign up genius, and help with book reorders of sold-out titles. The book fair takes place the week of October 8th-12th. If you are interested please email us through the Events & Volunteer Opportunities Calendar. You can find the calendar through the school’s website, by clicking on the parent portal and then the volunteer tab. Please click on the Book Fair event listed on Oct. 8th, and you will find a link to email your interest to H&S. We look forward to helping our students continue their love of reading and purchasing new books for their personal libraries.
