Presentation for Parents October 28 –  Legal Implications for Our Teens’ Online and Social Behaviors

SVdP is fortunate to have local attorney, Lara Baker, of Foster Graham, presenting to our community on the legal ramifications of seemingly normal online and social behaviors of teenage kids.

All too often the lawyers in her practice handle cases for good kids who have found themselves in trouble. Whether it be school discipline or contact with law enforcement, the best way to protect your children is to understand how the laws work in Colorado and create a dialogue about how to help your kids make good decisions.  Laura will be discussing these important issues and pitfalls:

  • Social media, cyber-bullying and the use of electronic devices

  • Sex, sexting and the laws of consent

  • The temptation of drugs and alcohol and the consequences you could face

  • School disciplinary consequences and what to do if you are contacted by the police.

Thursday, October 28th at 7pm in the School Gym

This talk is recommended for parents of all age children and for parents only.  The 7/8 grade students will receive an age-appropriate presentation during the school day on the same day.

More information about Lara can be found here; as well as past talks she has given to High School communities.

November 1 – All Saints Day Change in School Mass Day This Week

November 1st is All Saints Day and a holy day of obligation in the Catholic Church.  For this reason, we transfer the school Mass from its usual day in order to celebrate the solemnity and holy day on Monday, November 1st.  Students in grades K-5 are invited to dress as a saint of their choice.  These students will be invited to process into the Mass at the beginning.

November 11 – Veteran’s Day Assembly

St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School would like to honor the men and women who have faithfully served our nation. We cordially invite Veterans and families in the community to attend an outdoor parade and short music presentation by our 6th graders on the upper playground. This special event will be held on Thursday, November 11, weather permitting. Refreshments for Veterans will be provided by Home and School on the upper playground at 1:00pm, and the parade and program will start at 1:30pm. Please RSVP and/or direct questions to Karen Plank, Administrative Assistant, by email at kplank@svdpk8.com or by phone at 303-777-3812.

K-6 students will be making a class banner to thank and honor our Veterans as a part of this event. Students are encouraged to bring a photocopy of a photograph of any Veterans in their family to include on this signage. Please DO NOT send original photos, as they will be glued/attached to a paper banner and it will be impossible to return these pictures. Please send these with your child to school no later than November 1. Thank you!

COVID Update

CDPHE is offering free at-home rapid testing kits for parents of school children.  Learn more about the program here.  The kits can be pricey in the stores, and if you test following travel or when your children have symptoms this may be of help to you.  A few notes:

– if your child is asymptomatic, the test is minimally accurate

– if your child is symptomatic and tests positive on a rapid, it can be considered accurate

– PCR tests are still the gold standard and are offered for free at drive-through clinics

Chocolate Milk Saga – last call

Our milk delivery company for school lunches is not able to provide chocolate milk to St. Vincent de Paul School this year. If you ordered chocolate milk for your child/ren, would you kindly complete this form to let us know whether you want to cancel the order or replace it with white milk.

Book Discussion on The Collapse of Parenting – last call

There are a few extra copies of the book entitled

Walking With Purpose Women’s Bible Study

“Discovering Our Dignity!” We are continuing our study of the Bible. This year we are Learning how God worked in the lives of Biblical women:

**Sisters Leah and Rachel overcame jealousy when they learned that God offered all that they really needed.

**Abigail’s faith was so strong she didn’t despair, no matter how unpleasant life was with her husband

**Deborah had been given grace by God to act as His prophet, for the good of her people

Mary the Blessed Mother’s “yes” to God—her fiat—changed everything. How else did her words and deeds influence Jesus, and vice versa? We would LOVe to have you join us Thursday mornings at 9am via zoom OR Thursday Evenings at 7pm in person OR Zoom. Call that Kathy Quintana for information!! 303-358-4944.

The group will help the boys manage emotions, respond effectively as opposed to reacting impulsively, promote accountability for self, identify personal strengths and ultimately build relationships that will serve as a prosocial model for interactions outside of our group.  Click here for more details on the program.
