We are so close to our first day of school! This week our teachers and staff returned full-time to get the classrooms and hallways ready to receive your children. SVDP CROSS COUNTY UPDATE

We are excited for another Cross Country season that is quickly approaching. Below are the meets we plan on participating in this year starting with Slavens and finishing up with State in October. The head coach, Mr. Cilia is working on a practice schedule and planning on 1 or 2 practices per week starting right after school and finishing at 4:00 pm. This schedule will be coming out soon.  If parents have any interest in volunteering please let Mr. Cilia know as we are in need of an Assistant Coach and always need parents for support at practice.

Cross County is pretty fun. Some folks were born to run and others not so much, but the beauty of Cross County is that it has a spot for everyone. We encourage parents to talk with your children about running. This may be your child’s only activity or for many it is their second or third activity. Even so, Cross County is an important component to support those other sports. Most team sports have an endurance component and that typically is running. Also keep in mind for High School Cross County is often a no-cut sport that provides a safety net to have a sport in High School.

If you are interested in participating, please register on the CSAL Website SVDP will participate in the following Meets:

Slavens Friday Sept 9th

Machebeuf Tuesday Sept 13

Holy Family Wed Sept 21

Mullen Sat October 15

State Sat Oct 22

Evidence Based Parenting Speaker – Dr. Leonard Sax

For those of you who missed hearing Dr. Leonard Sax speak at Our Lady of Lourdes last fall, he is back in the Denver area! Dr. Sax will be giving a talk similar to the one last fall entitled “Evidence Based Parenting” at Nativity of our Lord at 7pm on Thursday, 9/15.

Since 2001, Dr. Sax has visited and worked with more than 460 schools, universities, juvenile justice facilities, communities of faith, corporations, pre-Ks and nursery schools, community groups and parent groups, learning from them and sharing what I have learned. That work, combined with his 30+ years as both a physician (M.D.) and as a Ph.D. psychologist, has allowed him a unique perspective on the challenges facing young people today, and what girls and boys need to fulfill their potential. Dr. Sax is the author of several books- “The Collapse of Parenting”, “Girls on the Edge”, “Boys Adrift” and “Why Gender Matters”.
