A note from Sister Marie Isaac, OP:

This next week includes many beautiful liturgical and community celebrations. Tomorrow is the Feast of Christ, the King of the Universe. As the last Sunday of Ordinary time in the Church calendar, “Pope Pius XI instituted this feast in 1925 with his encyclical Quas primas (“In the first”) to respond to growing secularism and atheism.  He recognized that attempting to “thrust Jesus Christ and his holy law” out of public life would result in continuing discord among people and nations. This solemnity reminds us that while governments come and go, Christ reigns as King forever.” (USCCB website). May our desire for God continue to grow.

Tuesday is the Feast of St. Cecilia, patroness of our Dominican Sisters. St. Cecilia was young woman who lived in 3rd Century Rome when it was very dangerous to be a Christian. She lived her faith courageously and died defending her faith. May her courage inspire us today. Read MORE about St. Cecilia.

Thanksgiving Thursday is a great opportunity to give thanks for the blessings that God has given us in our families, friends and community. On a related note, did you know that “Eucharist” comes from the Greek word for “to give thanks”? We have the opportunity to also give thanks for the greatest gift that God has given us, his beloved Son present in the Eucharist at holy Mass.

Advent begins next Sunday. This season helps us to prepare for the joyful celebration of Christmas. Does your family has Advent traditions? Here are a few to check out:

Know of my prayers for you and your family.

Donations!

We have been extremely blessed with a good start to our auction donation process and we are grateful to all gala class reps and families for their participation and support! We’re still brainstorming the best packages to grace the field in April, so if you have access or a connection to other items outside of your class’s theme, the gala committee would love to hear about it!  Concert tickets, vacation homes, unique experiences, etc. – NO items are too big or too small to bring to the table. You can reach out to us, your class reps, or directly to the gala chairs at 2023svdpgala@gmail.com with your ideas.

SVdP Sandwich Program Needs Help!

We are looking for families to help make sure the Sandwich Program continues to feed the hungry in Denver. It’s really easy, low time commitment and has a big impact… all you have to do is sign-up for 2-3 days a year to setup sandwich making stations before Mass (easy), make some sandwiches with your fellow parishioners (fun), and help cleanup when it’s over (fast).

If you’re interested in helping make this important program even better, please email Marisa Baldassano at m_baldassano@yahoo.com.
